How to Read Cricket Odds: A Beginner-Friendly Guide
Decimal odds, back and lay, market movement — learn how to read cricket odds correctly and make more informed betting decisions.
Cricket odds tell you how likely a market outcome is and how much you stand to win. Understanding them is the first step to betting smart.
Decimal odds made simple
In Indian cricket markets, odds are usually shown in decimal format. If the odds are 2.00, a ₹100 bet returns ₹200 (your stake plus ₹100 profit). If the odds are 1.50, the same ₹100 bet returns ₹150.
Back and lay — what they mean
Panels show two prices for every market: Back (the price at which you bet on an outcome happening) and Lay (the price at which you bet against it). Lower back odds mean the market considers an outcome more likely.
Reading market movement
- Shortening odds (1.90 → 1.70) = money coming in for that outcome
- Drifting odds (1.70 → 1.95) = money moving away
- Big moves near toss or team news are common in cricket — watch them carefully
- Compare back and lay prices to spot value
